Peer Coaching for the Community
Event Information
About this event
Peering in the community is something many of us do naturally already, and that can be taught and encouraged to others, using the three DENT© concepts of: Solidity; Mutuality; & Purposefulness.
These concepts means that, a peer is useful when they are independently healthy, integrate with their social world, and are focused on a collective way forward to allow us to make balanced and healthy decisions.
We will clarify the ways peering might already be happening in our communities, and look at ways that this can be 'SHAPEd' (using the Basic Elements of Peer Support which are: Support; Hope; Self-Advocacy; Personal Responsibility; Education) to make it efficient and effective.
We will look at the role of Confidante, who is someone who has mastered the art of healthy interdependence and listening, to aid community cohesion.
Sometimes we need to intervene when our communities are in need, and at times like this it is important to have peer leaders who are able to negotiate during challenging times.
Being of service is one of our essential needs and if we were all to give a little to our communities, we can strive towards to goal of ensuring that no one is ever alone in their suffering.
Compassion is the driving force.
In this free seminar, you will learn the following:
-Clarify different guises in which peer support appears
-Understand what it is to be a competent confidante
-Why is this important and what can you do to serve?
