Overview
What is a Peer Learning Circle?
Imagine a circle of peers (online or in-person) sharing real experiences, asking thoughtful questions, and exploring new ideas together. These circles support you to:
Learn at your own pace in a safe, inclusive environment Gain practical insights from fellow youth workers Share and receive feedback to refine your approach Try new ideas in a non-judgemental space Support your personal and professional development Discover what works and why Spark ideas and form lasting relationships
Themes We Explore Together
Youth workers today are supporting young people through an increasingly complex and demanding landscape. Rising poverty, mental health pressures, and the cost-of-living crisis continue to disproportionately affect young people, especially those from marginalised communities. Many face barriers to accessing youth provision, including affordability, lack of awareness, and concerns around safety and inclusion. At the same time, the youth sector itself is under strain, with limited resources, workforce shortages, and growing demand for support around serious violence, safeguarding, and emotional wellbeing.
More recently, youth workers have also been responding to distressing developments linked to far-right rhetoric and divisive narratives that are impacting young people’s sense of identity, safety and belonging. Workers are navigating complex conversations around racism and inclusion, while striving to maintain environments that are welcoming and safe for all.
Peer Circles are spaces to reflect on these realities, share approaches to anti-oppressive practice, and strengthen our collective response. It is a space for solidarity, learning and support that recognises the emotional labour of youth work and the importance of standing together to uphold the values of care, inclusion and safety for every young person.
Peer Circle themes will be guided by participants and may include:
- Conflict resolution
- Ethical dilemmas
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Anti-racism and inclusive practice
- Navigating boundaries
