About this event

This 1.5 day course is suitable for registered Health Professionals that would like to offer vaginal pelvic floor muscle assessment as a new skill within their scope of practice. It is also suitable for professionals that would like refresher training in vaginal pelvic floor examination. Our course has a strong focus on postnatal considerations and is suitable to pair up with 'Natal Foundations Level 1' if you are a Health Professional.

Why learn pelvic floor examination skills?

Women presenting with symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction require a detailed assessment and examination. Internal pelvic floor assessment is the gold standard way to assess how the pelvic floor muscles and connective tissue within the pelvis are working.

Learning outcomes:

On completion of 'Pelvic Floor & More' you will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements and considerations to comply with professional standards and consent for this type of examination
  • Screen for pelvic floor dysfunction within your subjective history taking.
  • Perform external palpation of the pelvic floor muscles
  • Perform a vaginal examination to assess pelvic floor function
  • Review the role of the pelvic floor muscles in relation to normal bladder and bowel function
  • Understand further the impact of childbirth related trauma to the pelvic floor short and long term.
  • Empower women with evidence based education and advice relating to pelvic floor function
  • Consider and implement an initial pelvic floor exercise programme

(Sunday 4th September is the LIVE face to face teaching day and you will receive your E-Learning modules 1 week before this date).
