Event Information
About this event
Pendleton - Nick of Pendle - Pendle Hill (Big End) - Pendleton
GRADE: HARD
Distance: 14.5km
Max elevation: 557m
Total ascent: 450m
This challenging nine-mile circuit avoids the popular and increasingly busy honeypot routes to explore the lesser-known crags, cloughs and ghylls on the rugged slopes of Pendle. We start in the pretty village of Pendleton and climb to the Nick o’ Pendle before walking along whaleback ridge to reach the summit trig on the ‘Big End’ for outstanding views over the Ribble Valley, Forest of Pendle and up to the Limestone country of the Yorkshire Dales.
On a clear day, the Lakeland Fells and even the mountains of Snowdonia should be visible. We return via the western edge of the summit plateau descending beside one of the steep cloughs on the western flank to return to our start point.
Post-walk refreshments will be available in the CAMRA Award-winning village pub – the Swan with Two Necks.
Pub car park is shared with village hall. On street parking is limited in the village so please park with consideration. Meet from 9.45am and the walk will start at 10am. Rail: Train to Clitheroe – 10-minute taxi ride to Pendleton
This walk will be led by Mark Sutcliffe, Editorial Director, Salar Media
Walkers will need sturdy walking boots or shoes, layered clothing and waterproofs just in case though we'll update on the weather forecast closer to the walk. You should also bring drinking water. More information will be sent out in the week before the walk.
Hope you can join us.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, you're fine as you are. We keep track of the attendees and check you off on arrival. However, if you have a confirmation email saved onto your phone, this may be useful on the rare occasion that there are any issues.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
