Pendle Hill
Event Information
About this event
Nick of Pendle - Pendle Hill - Nick of Pendle
GRADE: MEDIUM
Distance: 12km
Max elevation: 557m
Total ascent: 343m
This 7.5 miles circuit avoids the popular and increasingly busy honeypot routes to explore the lesser known crags, cloughs and ghylls on the rugged slopes of Pendle.
We start in the pretty village of Pendleton and climb to the Nick o’ Pendle before walking along the whaleback ridge to reach the summit trig on the ‘Big End’ for outstanding views over the Ribble Valley, Forest of Pendle and up to the Limestone country of the Yorkshire Dales.
On a clear day, the Lakeland Fells and even the mountains of Snowdonia should be visible. We return via the western edge of the summit plateau before veering south to make a gentle descent to our starting point.
Clitheroe is just over an hour by train from Manchester Victoria (a train departs at 08:39 to arrive 09:56 where you'll be able to pre-order a taxi for the 10 mins transfer).
This walk will be led by Mark Sutcliffe, Editorial Director, Salar Media
Don't forget, you will need to bring some water and a packed lunch for a halfway stop. More information will be sent out in the week before the walk.
Hope you can join us.
