Event description

Description

Meeting at Pendle Heritage Centre this route takes us to Roughlee via Watermeetings, then up to Noggarth before returning back into Barrowford. Stunning views of the Pendle countryside can be enjoyed along much of the route.

This route celebrates the industrial past of Pendle Water and the area’s historic links with witchcraft whilst allowing fantastic views of the Pendle countryside. Beginning in Barrowford, the walk heads out past Higherford Mill towards Watermeetings. The route then crosses farmland towards Blacko Foot, before joining the road into Roughlee. After leaving Roughlee, the route then takes a slight incline up to Noggarth Top, providing excellent views of Pendle Hill on the way. Heading downhill through farmland, we return into Barrowford and through Barrowford Park before continuing past Pendle Heritage Centre to the car park. Livestock are present in some of the fields on this route. Please keep dogs on a lead. If cattle get too close or become excitable, let the dog off the lead.

The meeting point of Pendle Heritage Centre will be the best opportunity along the route for access to toilet facilities and refreshments. This circular route will also finish at the Heritage Centre should participants wish to purchase refreshments after the walk.

This is one of four walks starting from the Heritage Centre shortly after our launch event. You are very welcome to come and join us for complimentary tea and coffee from 10 am as we celebrate the launch of this year's festival with the Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Ken Hartley.

Approximate length of walk: 5 miles

Walk grading: Moderate - walks with gentle slopes and some stiles (1 – 6 miles)

Pace of walk: we will set a gentle pace with regular breaks to catch your breath and enjoy the view.

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for walking. The weather can change rapidly so please bring waterproofs. Please also bring drinking water.

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

Booking is essential for this walk. Please book a place through this website if you wish to take part.

Please ensure that if you arrive by car that you park considerately and pay any parking charges which are applicable.
