Event description

Description

Pendle is the this area's iconic landmark with historical associations with trial of the Pendle Witches and the founding of the Quaker movement. We will be taking one of the gentler routes, but it's nevertheless steep on the way to the summit via the cart track. We return via Ogden Clough.

Meeting at a point near The Cabin in Barley Car Park we walk through the village and take a wide path up past Lower Black Moss Reservoir and then cut back past Pendle Side and take the so-called "Cart Track" up to the summit of Pendle. From the summit we take the flag-stoned path across Barley Moor and cross the Ogden Clough stream. We follow Ogden Clough, and Ogden Upper and Lower reservoirs all the way back to Barley.

There are public toilets and places to eat in Barley but there are no such facilities on the walk itself. The weather can change suddenly on Pendle so please come prepared for rain or sunshine.

Approximate length of walk: 8 miles

Walk grading: Hard - walks with some difficult terrain and hilly sections (1 – 9 miles)

Pace of walk: we hope to set a faster pace with only occasional breaks.

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for walking. The weather can change rapidly so please bring waterproofs. Please also bring drinking water.

If using public transport the 67 bus from Nelson Interchange or Clitheroe stops in Barley.

Dogs are not allowed on this walk.

Please bring a packed lunch.

Booking is essential for this walk. Please book a place through this website if you wish to take part.

Please ensure that if you arrive by car that you park considerately and pay any parking charges which are applicable.
