Event description

Description

We experience woods such as Round Wood, Grove Lane Plantation, Gawthorpe Hall Plantation and Hagg Wood. We also take the Leeds & Liverpool Canal towpath, a feature of the Bronte Way east from Gawthorpe Hall and get off near Prairie Field.

We head north to look over Round Wood from the Leeds & Liverpoool Canal towpath; eventually go south west past Wood End Farm, through Grove Lane Plantation via Stockbridge Drive to Gawthorpe Hall with its own Woodland Trail, toilets and a tearoom. Gawthorpe Hall is also the start point of the the western end of Bronte Way which we will take - as well as detour Hagg Wood - and finally getting off the Bronte Way at Barden canal bridge just south west of Prairie Field.

Approximate length of walk: 9 miles

Walk grading: Hard - walks with some difficult terrain and hilly sections (1 – 9 miles)

Pace of walk: we will set a gentle pace with regular breaks to catch your breath and enjoy the view.

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for walking. The weather can change rapidly so please bring waterproofs. Please also bring drinking water.

Prairie Sports Village is just west of the A682 for the buses. It also has a car park, cafe and toilets.

We will stop at a cafe for light refreshments during the walk.

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

Booking is essential for this walk. Please book a place through this website if you wish to take part.

Please ensure that if you arrive by car that you park considerately and pay any parking charges which are applicable.
