About this event
PENELOPE ISLES, VOLLEYBALL, LULA & GENE AND RUSSELL & THE FRENCH BOYS
After plenty of BBC 6 Music airplay for the new Album ‘Which Way is Happy’, Brighton based Penelope Isles are embarking on their first UK tour since Covid, and we are incredibly excited to finally have them play at St James.
The band, a collaboration between brother and sister, Jack and Lili Wolters, mix waves of ambient delays and fuzz guitar noise, sonic dynamics and melodic pop hooks entwined with girl-boy harmonies. Their new albums has gained some rave reviews. Under the Radar Mag writes: “There’s much to admire here: beauty, fragility, a dash of blissed-out space rock, dream pop, even a hint of French disco amidst the soaring widescreen soundscapes as Penelope Isles dip in and out of genres yet never sound constrained by any of them.”
Also on the line up are Indie Psych band Volleyball, bringing with them their unqiue sound, which they describe as - a bit shoegazey, wobbly guitar and synth sounds, ethereal cruising melodies with assured punchy drums.
The UK bands are joined by two local bands, atmospheric duo Lula & Gene with their own spin on well-picked covers and a growing repertoire of originals and dapper pop rockers Russel and The French Boys.
