About this event

Join artist Laxmi Hussain for a workshop celebrating Penguin Archive, an eclectic, international series of 90 short books from Penguin Classics.

Laxmi will lead an intuitive practice workshop on illustration inspired by Penguin Archive designs and passages from books in the series, exploring the human form, motherhood, nature and beauty.

A stylisation of many of the great designs from Penguin’s past, Penguin Archive features 90 covers, each with a unique design rendered in red and white in the spirit of a love letter. These will provide a jumping-off point to create your own drawings.

Laxmi Hussain's intricately composed works transcend traditional boundaries, inviting viewers to engage with her art through deliberately incomplete elements. Blue, an ever-present hue in Laxmi's palette, stands as a tribute to her mother and mirrors her journey of self-discovery and creative exploration. Laxmi has left her artistic footprint amongst Vogue Philippines, Tate, Soho House, Henry Moore Studios, Vogue UK/US and H&M Home.

Please note: Book and ticket option includes your choice of a Penguin Archive title (RRP. £5.99) for collection on the night. Titles will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
