This taster session will offer potential new recruits an insight into the role of an on-call firefighter.
To explain the role of an on-call firefighter, this is exactly the same as that of a full-time firefighter but with one difference – on-call firefighters aren’t based at the fire station all the time, they have an alerter and they only respond when there’s an emergency.
The session will start with a presentation about the role so those attending have the opportunity to speak to the crew and see how the role could potentially work for them.
Attendees will also get to observe a short breathing apparatus drill before taking part in a rural test complete with a ladder climb and leg lock.
Anyone over the age of 18 who has a driving licence, and lives within a 5-minute radius of an on-call station can apply to become an on-call firefighter, and all applicants will go through the same recruitment and training process.
PLEASE NOTE: your address information given at the point of booking will be used to assess if you fall within the turnout time for your closest on-call station. Unfortunately, we can only proceed with event bookings where people fall within these criteria, if you are outside of the required response area for your closest on-call station someone will be in touch to let you know before the event.
