Pennine Prospects, a not-for-profit organisation that looks after the natural, built and cultural heritage of the South Pennines (a non-designated landscape of distinctiveness (NCA 36)) would like to invite you to join us for our annual conference on ‘Valuing our Distinctive Landscapes’ on 8-9 November 2016.
The conference would like to explore distinctive landscapes and the benefits and challenges of those that are not currently designated and to start to link organisations who have an interest in non-designated landscapes to consider their special and unique qualities and to raise the profile of these important areas locally, regionally, nationally and beyond.
The conference will take place over two days (you can come to one site visit and conference or just the conference), the first being a choice of one of three site visits to distinctive landscapes around Hebden Bridge taking in woodlands, moors, steep-sided valleys and reservoirs. The second day, hosted at The Shay Stadium in Halifax, will be a series of talks and workshops with local, national and international speakers and workshop leaders, exploring what makes a landscape distinctive, designation strategy, considering innovative ways to deal with challenges and opportunities of non-designated landscapes, the value of our landscapes (governance and funding) and engaging people in appreciating landscape character and engendering buy-in to protecting and maintaining our special places. Please go to Pennine Prospects website for more details. http://www.pennineprospects.co.uk/
