Penny Lecture: Mars – Small, Old, Frozen… Exciting By Javier Cuadros
Event Information
Description
Our oldest tradition dates all the way back to when we were first founded. Listen to a lecture on an interesting and unusual topic, delivered by an expert, for just a penny.
The pictures of Mars suggest a hot, dry desert. Dry it is, but very cold. The landscapes we see are very old too, the equivalent to walking into the geological landscape of our Earth just about when life began, some 2,700 million years BEFORE the dinosaurs. The small size of Mars is to be blamed for all this. And yet, there was a “wet and warm” period in early Mars that is causing no end of excitement and that keeps attracting satellite probes and rovers.
