Event description

Description

A screening of Jon Schorstein’s film KH-4 (1969, 13 mins, B&W) will be followed by an artist’s talk by Toby Paterson and a conversation with architect Jude Barber.

KH-4 features a young Bill Forsyth as an artist exploring a version of Glasgow that seems suffused with a sense of the uncanny. The protagonist’s alienation from the city is further compounded as the built environment is radically transformed before him in this evocative short film.

Toby Paterson’s talk will set his project for this year's Glasgow International Festival, Penumbralism, within the wider context of his work and interests in the built environment, elaborating on the nature of ‘negative space’ within cities and how such seemingly unpromising subject matter has influenced artists over the last century.

Jude Barber is a director of Collective Architecture and will join Toby Paterson for an open discussion of the issues Penumbralism raises. Collective Architecture was established to pursue themes of participation and sustainability in architecture and the practice’s output is highly varied, ranging from intimate community installations to large scale urban regeneration. Toby Paterson has collaborated with Collective Architecture on several fruitful public projects over the last decade.
