Event description

Description

Over the last six months, place-based research project Leith Creative has been engaging with Leithers, asking the simple question, ‘What would you do to make Leith better?’ Now we invite you to attend our two-day community conference at the Leith Community Education Centre on 19th & 20th August, to discuss some of the top issues and themes that have come out of our research to date.

Saturday
Day One of the conference will focus on how the arts and culture can contribute to both the social and spatial development of neighbourhoods, while ensuring they remain inclusive and representative. Special guest speakers include John Paul McGroarty (formerly of Leith Festival and Leith Theatre) and Shona McCarthy (Edinburgh Fringe Festival).

Audience members will then be invited to join informal round table discussions on the headline themes and issues highlighted by the Leith Creative research to date.

The Leith Community Education Centre is fully wheelchair accessible with a community café, toilets and baby changing facilities. The Centre is on the first floor of the New Kirkgate Shopping Centre and there is a lift on the ground floor.

Leith Creative's People & Places: Make Leith Better project is co-delivered by LeithLate and Citizen Curator and supported by the Scottish Government, Creative Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council.
