Event description

Description

See the fastest birds in the world as they swoop over the medieval ramparts of York Minster and learn the meanings of their different calls This walk is led by acclaimed birdwatcher Jack Ashton-Booth, a leading member of York Peregrines - the organisation that keeps a daily log of the peregrines living on the minster. Let him show you these magnificent birds as they hunt and help you look out for signs that the pair may be nesting high up in the gothic towers.

Group size: Places are limited to 12, please book early to avoid disappointment.

Where to meet: Meet at the North West Tower of Deans Gardens. Jack Ashton-Booth will be easy to spot as he stands with a telescope and board with prey remains and feathers for you to examine.

What to wear: This event takes place outside. Please wrap up and wear waterproof/windproof jacket or sun hat/cream, accordingly. You will be standing for some time and walking for short periods so wear suitable shoes, but remember there are plenty of benches to rest on in the gardens. Bring a pair of binoculars if you have them.

Please be aware this event may have to be cancelled at short notice if the weather makes it impossible. If this is the case we will contact you in good time by email/phone.
