About this event

Perfect Improv!

Our flagship improv show with a special guest monologist and an all-star improv cast from the Glasgow Improv Theatre!

"A brilliantly fun and funny show" - Josie Long

Special guest monologist:

Kathleen Hughes!

'Self-assuredness, confidence, charm and whip-smart wit... an incredibly funny woman' (Skinny). 'One of the bright new hopes of Scottish comedy' (Scotsman). 'A ridiculously talented comic' (Billy Kirkwood). 'Clever, open-hearted, deeply funny' (Chris Thorburn). **** (TheWeeReview.com). **** (LisaInTheTheatre.com).

Kathleen Hughes is a newcomer who is making an impact with her arrival on the comedy scene. Her fresh, insightful humour and tenacious approach has cemented her as one to watch in Scottish comedy and saw her to the final of Gilded Balloon’s national “So You Think You’re Funny?” new act competition in 2021 and the semi-finals of LGBTQ+ New Comedian of the Year 2022.

Since then, she has been entertaining audiences across Scotland, including a sell-out show at Glasgow International Comedy Festival and regular spots at The Stand comedy club. Her writing has also been featured on BBC Radio Scotland’s Breaking the News and BBC Radio 4’s Newsjack.

Tackling subjects such as identity, gender, sexuality and mental health, Kathleen makes the most daunting topics accessible with bright, witty, and welcoming humour.

Previous monologists include: Josie Long, Christopher Macarthur-Boyd, Marc Jennings, Susan Riddell, Elaine Malcolmson, Tamsyn Kelly, Stephen Buchanan & Stuart McPherson.

About the Glasgow Improv Theatre

The Glasgow Improv Theatre (“The GIT”) is the home of improv comedy in Scotland and one of the largest improv theatres in the UK. Founded in 2016 by Martin James—an alum of the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) in Los Angeles—The GIT began with small shows in Glasgow pubs and quickly evolved into the cornerstone of Scotland's improv scene. Today, the theatre is run by Martin James and John McInnes, and it offers a full curriculum of improv training, from beginner drop-ins and Improv 101 to advanced, performance-focused classes.

The GIT runs a packed weekly programme at The Old Hairdressers, including Harold Night and Perfect Improv—the latter featuring acclaimed guests such as Josie Long, Zara Gladman, Christopher Macarthur-Boyd, and Marc Jennings. Each year, The GIT also holds open auditions for its House Teams, offering emerging performers free coaching, regular stage time, and a vibrant creative community. The theatre is committed to removing barriers to entry through its scholarship program, providing free training opportunities to support new and diverse talent.
