Description

Learn the art of storytelling through the medium of animation

Mary Norton originally introduced The Borrowers to us in 1952. The tale has stood the test of time, bringing joy and delight to each new generation of readers.

In these workshops, children will have the opportunity to create and animate the Clock family: Pod, Homily and their daughter Arrietty. By using stop frame animation techniques children will tell the tale of The Borrowers’ life beneath the floorboards and how they survive by “borrowing” items from the human world above.

Children's imagination will be set alight in a world where tiny everyday objects take on unusual and bizarre uses: a thimble become a cooking pot and a dice becomes a stool. Arrietty even uses a red tomato as a space hopper and promptly gets told off by her mother for playing with her food!

The South West is the world leader in telling stories through stop-frame animation. Share some of the techniques used at Aardman Studios (of Wallace and Gromit fame and a string of other films) to create a joint animation with professional animator, Angela Frankham www.theanimationworkshopbath.com. Craft original models, background and objects and work with others…

Through engaging in a stop-frame animation project, children will understand how films are constructed and how working as a team is essential towards successful animation. They will enhance their communicate skills by sharing their ideas with others and through the medium of film.

Ideally, it would be best to sign up to the complete course, as children would experience the whole project from inception to performance. However, each stand-alone workshop would be interesting and engaging in its own right and can be booked individually.

PLEASE NOTE - IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK FOR THE WHOLE 7 WEEK COURSE, EACH MONTH'S ACTIVITIES WILL NEED TO BE BOOKED SEPARATELY. THERE ARE SEPARATE TICKETED EVENTS FOR
