Event description

Description

Medal in the Drawer is a play by Brenda Winter-Palmer which charts the journeys of four young men from Belfast and their horrifying experience of WW1. Based on the war journey of the playwright’s great uncle Willie Kerr, the play explores the complex and sometimes divided loyalties of Irish men who joined the British Army to fight for King and Country in the midst of a Home Rule crisis in Ireland.

The play reclaims a family history in an act of commemoration for all those Belfast men who died in the First World War. It is also a reflection on which parts of history a divided society chooses to remember and which parts it chooses to forget.
