Permaculture Southampton (April)
Sat 8 April 2017, 13:30 – 16:30 BST
This is the launch event for a monthly meeting to learn together about permaculture.
Why Permaculture? Permaculture is a phrase created in the 1970s to describe ways of managing the land to produce food in a sustainable or permanent way (permanent agriculture). The big idea was to consciously design better ways of working with nature, rather than against it. Over the last 30 years the principles used by permaculture designers have been developed into a framework that is useful in areas beyond producing food. These principles can help us organize our households and communities in more sustainable ways.
Purpose of the group
To study the principles of permaculture in order to apply them to our lives.
To nurture a community of people sharing resources as we apply permaculture principles to our lives and communities.
To make permaculture accessible to people locally and at no cost.
Practicalities. Each month we will discuss one of the principles of permaculture described by David Holmgren in the book "Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability". October Books have this book in stock at a £2 discount of £17.95 (http://www.octoberbooks.org).
After an hour discussing the principle of the month we will have time to form our own conversations about anything the group wishes - there may be several groups going on at the same time, depending on what different people want to talk about.
- [optional] 1230 Bring and Share lunch
- 1330 Permaculture principle: presentation/teaching on one of the principles of permaculture, followed by conversations about how this principle applies to us here in Southampton.
- 1430 Conversations of the day: various further conversations suggested by the people who are at the meeting.
- 1530 Finish (but welcome to stay on until farm closes at 1630).
