Person-centred approaches to dementia: support for community based staff

This course will help you to take a person-centred approach to dementia care and to develop your skills in supporting people to live well with the condition in the community. This engaging and instructive course will develop your confidence and increase your understanding to better meet the needs of people with dementia and their families.

Course content:

•Understanding the common signs and symptoms of dementia

•Establishing trust to support good communication

•Working with family carers and friends

•Understanding the Mental Capacity Act and Safeguarding

•What makes a dementia-friendly community?

 Learning outcomes:

 Attendees will understand how best to support an individual and their family carers to live well with dementia in different community settings.

 Who should attend?

 Care and support staff working in:

•home care

•care homes and nursing homes

•day centres

•rehabilitation and respite care services

•voluntary sector services
