THIS IS NOT A FREE EVENT

This group is run via The Gestalt Cente London. Please click here more information

A Personal Development Group offers the opportunity for you to experience what happens in a Gestalt therapy group. It’s a safe, supportive space in which you can explore personal issues alongside other people who also want to understand themselves better.

WHAT IS GESTALT?

Gestalt theory is concerned with the whole person, encouraging a balance between body, feeling, intellect and imagination. The gestalt approach in psychotherapy understands people as being inextricably linked with their environments both affected by and affecting the context in wwhich person lives. Here and now, experiments, creativity, imagination, fragmentation and integration are concepts linked the theory and practice of gestalt.

WHO ATTENDS THESE GROUPS

These aren’t academic courses – they’re group sessions open to anyone who’s interested in finding out more about themselves and gaining an insight into Gestalt. You don’t need any specialist qualifications or experience – just natural curiosity and an open mind.

Groups also attract people who are working in education, therapeutic settings, community developments, organisational work or, indeed, any people-focused profession.

WHAT IS GESTALT GROUPWORK?

A Gestalt group offers its members opportunities to explore personal issues with the support and participation of people also interested in understanding themselves and the variety of experiences of their lives. Typically, there are around 12 people in these group sessions By participating in Gestalt group work you may find opportunities to:

  • Foster your capacity to be imaginative

  • Develop a greater awareness of how you relate to yourself and others

  • Discover the patterns you have developed for dealing with your life and decide whether these strategies have outlived their usefulness

  • Work with what are sometimes experienced as ‘difficult’ emotions, anger, fear, vulnerability etc.

  • Learn ways of giving and receiving clear comments about yourself and others through understanding of your own process.

We’ll provide you with a bibliography at the end of the course, should you wish to continue your exploration.

WHAT IS GESTALT?

Gestalt is a therapeutic approach that offers a wonderfully positive perspective on life and the wider world around us. Gestalt theory is concerned with the whole person, encouraging a balance between body, feeling, intellect and imagination. In psychotherapy, the Gestalt approach understands people as being inextricably linked with their environments, both affecting and affected by the context in which a person lives.

Gestalt sessions are typically lively, creative, interactive and experimental – and always focused on the Here and Now.
