Personal Impact and Confidence workshops

The Women in Biology, Medicine and Health (WiBMH) and Women in Cancer Networks in FBMH are co-hosting two workshops for BMH staff run by two external trainers, Val Sampson and Jacqui Marson.

Dates:

Tuesday, 16th May, 9.30-12.30, Simon Building 4.05

Tuesday, 20th June 9.30-12.30, Simon Building 4.05

This interactive workshop is designed for people who want to explore practical and effective ways to build positive relationships with crucial groups and individuals, and to communicate with confidence in the workplace. You may be finding that hard work alone is not enough to help you progress through your organisation and positively influence others. Are you able to:

  • Communicate effectively at meetings?
  • Feel confident that you can handle difficult conversations with colleagues?
  • Draw on your strengths to counteract times of stress and challenge?
  • Use non-verbal communication to increase your own confidence and win over an audience?

Areas to be covered

  • Accessing your ‘dependable strengths’ and embedding these in your daily working life
  • Understanding the key differences between poor communication and excellent communication
  • Appreciating the functions of meetings and the best way to prepare for them
  • Tips to reduce anxiety and increase a state of relaxation
  • How to have difficult conversations which produce positive outcomes

Expected process:

  • A questionnaire will be sent to all participants beforehand requesting information on the areas of personal impact and confidence that they would most like to focus on
  • Three hour workshop incorporating responses to the issues raised by participants in the questionnaires

Feedback from previous workshops: This workshop was delivered by these two coaches to the Women In Life Sciences group a few years ago to postdoctoral, academic and PSS staff. All found it useful and feedback was excellent (some examples below):

  • I am very glad I took the time to come
  • Enjoyable and thought provoking
  • Thanks for a great workshop – really helpful and you pitched it perfectly - and generated enthusiasm and openness.
  • The 2 presenters were very engaging – I liked their style
  • Practical tips that I can see I will actually use
  • The amount of content gone through in 3 hrs was substantial – but without feeling rushed, with the chance to try out practical applications, Loved the practical applications that can be applied to real life very easily
  • Good to learn about useful tips that should (with practice) be easy to apply to life, especially meetings/difficult situation.
  • Was a good mix of being taught techniques and being able to practice them – useful to see scenarios acted out at end – and hearing suggestions from how people would proceed
  • Having two people lead the workshop worked very well – great dynamics between you both
  • Great workshop – thanks
  • Thanks for a great empowering session
