Description

For those who have a passion for, and who dedicate their time to developing community initiatives that support the wellbeing of others around them, we can find ourselves enmeshed trying to balance event planning/family/life commitments/personal vision/values/bureaucracy/funding bids...the list could go on. It is easy for such challenges to take over and for the love, fun and driving energy behind your reason for giving to lose its way, but most importantly, for the person behind it to feel overwhelmed and forget about their own wellbeing and care.

Why Resilience Training?

Resilience training empowers people to deal with challenges within their personal and professional lives with improved emotional and cognitive competence. Resilient individuals are more confident and have higher self-esteem, they have good emotional control, more effective communication, better decision-making and greater solution-focussed thinking, contributing to more effective and efficient productivity. Resilient individuals also know how to set appropriate boundaries and look after their own welfare in order that they can contribute and serve others more effectively.

About the Trainer

Dr Joselyn Sellen is a Chartered Psychologist and Resilience and Personal Performance Specialist. She trained as a psychologist, gaining her BSc (Hons) in 1998 and her PhD in 2002. Between 2003 and 2017 Joselyn was a Psychology Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Programme Director at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Her work included researching and teaching on psychological vulnerability and the effects of poor mental health on thoughts, emotions and behaviour. Joselyn also delivered resilience workshops and training to help individuals understand their resilience strengths and competencies, their emotional responses and triggers and also self compassion and self care. In 2017, Dr Sellen set up her own Resilience Training and Coaching practice to support organisations in taking care of the mental health and psychological well-being of their staff. Dr Sellen helps people identify their existing psychological strengths and to learn and develop new skills and competencies to help them tackle daily and significant challenges as they arise.

What's in the Resilience Training?

The workshop will include the following:

Understanding what resilience is and isn’t; understanding your own triggers for stress and overwhelm (and how you might unknowingly contribute to them!); learning to understand and control our emotions; skilful and unskilful coping mechanisms; learning new resilience skills; giving to others; self care and self compassion; putting you back at the centre of your world.

Please note: We have been notified that the lift at the venue is currently out of action, and there are stairs to the meeting room. Please let us know if you will have any mobility/access issues and we will be very happy to find alternative arrangements. Lunch is provided :)
