10.00 Welcome and introductions.

10.10 - 10.30 SYLVIA DUNCAN: Chair IRCT: “A Roadmap to Recovery: A Developmental Perspective” - Sylvia will present a model to explain the importance of taking a developmental perspective on the impact of trauma highlighting the therapeutic needs at each stage of development to provide a roadmap for the way forward.

10.30 - 11.00 : Small group discussion and feedback

11.00 - 11.20: YVON GUEST: "Beyond Just Surviving’" - Resilience is sometimes thought of as something we have or don't have. The responsibility is often placed on either the individual or the environment. Such binary thinking fails to address the complexities of recovering from significant trauma. I am going to share the findings from my doctoral thesis about mature adults who were in care as children; to show how resilience is a dynamic process; between the individual and the external world, initially about survival and then moving beyond survival.

11.20 - 11.50 Small groups and feedback

11.50 - 12.00 Short Break

12.00 - 12.20 ROLAND WOODWARD: "Recovery Environments; The place, the People, the Rationale" - Recovery has different forms and occurs in different environments but for recovery to happen there are some basic conditions that need to be in place. Some of these are physical but most are psychological and interpersonal. This presentation outlines models and essential components.

12.20 - 13.50 Small group and feedback

13.50 - 13.30 Plenary discussion - where do we go from here?

This event will link in with a planned live conference taking place on 12th November 2021 (TBC) when we will be looking at the practical application of the theoretical ideas in different environmental contexts . Further details will be available soon but in the meantime you may like to save the date. There is no need to attend both events, however to do so will offer a fuller experience.

Before booking your place, please read through our terms and conditions here.
