PESGB YP Lochnagar Hike
Sun 9 April 2017, 08:30 – 16:00 BST
Join the PESGB YPs for an epic hike through the Cairngorm National Park.
Dark Lochnagar with its magnificent northern corrie is the highest, most popular and much the finest mountain of the Mounth - or perhaps even of the Cairngorms as a whole. It was immortalised in verse by Lord Byron.
Geology- The Lochnagar massif is made up of granitic rocks which form an intrusion into Dalradian rocks which were metamorphosed during mountain building in the early Palaeozoic. (Eroded top of large granitic plutons). These Granites were intruded around 425 mya many show hydrothermal alteration.
Grade- Moderate to Hard hill-walk. Longer walks and pathless sections with some minor scrambling.
This is a scenic hike taking in some exceptional waterfalls on the return journey.
