About this Event

About this Event

PLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT IS BEING POSTPONED UNTIL A FUTURE DATE BECAUSE OF THE COVID 19 CRISIS. WE HOPE TO RUN IT IN MAY OR JUNE. SORRY FOR ANY INVONVENIENCE BUT WE THINK THAT PUBLIC SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT AT THIS TIME.

ANYONE WHO HAS ALREADY BOOKED CAN RETAIN THEIR TICKETS FOR THE FUTURE DATE OR REQUEST A REFUND. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

After the very successful Mozart + and Chopin + concerts we are delighted to announce the next mini concert featuring world famous pianist Allan Schiller. On this occasion Allan will be playing Sergei Prokofiev's ever popular fairytale Peter and the Wolf. Allan will be joined by actor David Collins who will narrate the story.

Children are welcome to come dressed as characters from the story (the wolf, a cat, a duck, a bird and hunters).

At only 45 minutes long the concert is an ideal introduction to classical music for children and anyone learning to play the piano but will also appeal to classical music enthusiasts.

Allan will be supported and introduced by Kevin Lindegaard.

Allan Schiller's World of Music

As always Allan and Kevin will introduce some musical terms and demonstrate by playing examples.

We are very pleased that local pizzeria Acapella will again be sponsoring this part of the concert (as most of their pizzas have musical names like Adagio, Presto and Sonata). All children attending the concert will be given a free raffle ticket and the winner will be treated to a FREE take away pizza !

Other info

Refreshments are available. Allan Schiller CDs will be available to buy for £5 and his autobigraphy Music Made Me for £10.

Booking

Please note: when you book tickets you will have to choose the donation option so if you want 2 adult and 2 children's tickets please put in £12 in the box and then Eventbrite will add their small fee at the checkout. The ticket you receive won't have the breakdown of tickets as this would require an upgrade to the paid for Eventbrite service which wouldn't be cost effective for such an event. Please don't worry about this. When it comes through to our dashboard it's easy enough for us to work out the breakdown of ticket types. Apologies for any confusion and thanks for supporting the event!

Charitable donations

So far we have been overwhelmed with the success of the events and would like to thank our patrons for their support. At the last event we had 250 people including around 100 children. The success of the events and proceeds generated is allowing us to donate15% of the profits to charity. So far the recipients have included The Gorilla Organisation, The Aaron Copland Fund for Music and the NSPCC. Following each concert we will be donating funds to a mix of three Local, National and International charities and at least one will have some relationship to the theme of the concert or the composer involved. On this occasion one of the charities will be Wolfwatch (www.wolfwatch.uk) which is involved in the rescue, welfare and conservation of displaced wolves from captive situations across Europe.

Allan Schiller Biography

Allan Schiller is widely regarded as one of the UK's finest pianists. He was a child prodigy and made his debut at the age of 10 in a Mozart concerto with the Halle Orchestra under Sir John Barbirolli. He later became the first British pianist to be awarded a scholarship to study at the Moscow Conservatoire. During his long professional career he has appeared with all the major UK orchestras and the distinguished conductors Sir George Solti, Sir Malcolm Sargent and Sir Charles Mackerras. He has made countless broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and recorded a number of highly regarded CDs. Allan recently was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to music and his charitable deeds.
