Workshop – Access to Records and Confidentiality
Peter Jenkins is a Senior Lecturer in Counselling at the University of Manchester. He is a former member of the BACP's Professional Conduct Committee and is now a member of the Ethics Committee of the UKCP. He has extensive experience of training counselling practitioners and organisations on legal aspects of therapy, and has published widely on this topic. He is the author of Counselling, Psychotherapy and the Law (Second edition, Sage, 2007) and co-author, with Debbie Daniels, of Therapy with Children: Children's Rights, Confidentiality and the Law (Second edition, Sage, 2010).
Participants will be invited to share their experiences of sharing client records with other professionals and the courts and have the opportunity to learn about who has the right to access their records. Particular attention will be given to clients undergoing court proceedings.
This workshop will explore the professional, ethical and legal issues facing practitioners with regard to confidentiality and access to client records. The topics to be addressed will include access to counselling records by:
The style of the workshop will be participative. There will be an opportunity to explore issues facing practitioners working in varied settings, such as statutory organisations, voluntary or third sector organisations, or private practice.
Parking: £2.50 per day – pay and display
Any cancellation made by the Client will only be refunded if made 15 working days prior to the start of the course.
Any cancellation made by the Company shall entitle the Client to a full reimbursement.
The course fees and the Client’s confirmed bookings are not transferable.
