For our very first 'Out and About' we are inviting you into the world of British painter, Peter McDonald, who works right in the heart of Art Wednesday's stomping ground, Dalston. Peter’s colour-drenched paintings are a crazy concoction of cartoon culture and Matisse, and the scenes and characters in his paintings depict a psychedelic cosmos that Peter cleverly intertwines with our own mundane world. His work ranges from large-scale public projects, such as the murals he made for billboards outside Southwark tube to the tiny jewel-like worlds he paints onto cigarette boxes. Peter’s paintings have already caused a stir - in 2008 he was awarded the John Moores prize for painting, and his work is on display in major museum collections. Peter is currently preparing for an up-coming show, which opens in London, in May.
About Art Wednesday's 'Out and About' tours:
The intellectualisation of the art world bugs us, which is why here at Art Wednesday we attempt to simplify it online. Offline we host Nice To Meet You events that connect you our audience with the people and ideas that you deserve to know about. With 'Out and About', we've gone one step further and created a series of tours, so you can now meet the incredible community of artists working right under your noses, either in their own environment or at a gallery. These studio and gallery visits will offer you a little window into art in the making and the opportunity to see it up close, without the usual stuffiness.
