Balancing Perceptions:
The important role media plays in accurately
reflecting the modern day Diaspora
Guest Speaker at 7pm: Lindsey Oliver, Managing Director of Chiswick Park Studios (YANGA! parent company)
As part of the vision of PFA, we are keen to promote and encourage the ongoing development of young Africans based in the UK, which we believe is critical to the long term sustainability of growth in Africa.
The evening will give you a unique opportunity to hear about about YANGA! a new general entertainment destination launching in the new year (2018) giving voice to Africa’s thriving Diaspora. You will have the opportunity to share your thoughts on content and what would interest you.
YANGA! will be bringing a camera crew and their presenter Mansour Bellow will be on hand to interview members of the audience. They would like to know what "yanga" means to you. These short clips will be used to support YANGA!'s marketing campaign.
Echoing the continent’s bold and beautiful style, YANGA! brings Africa’s energy with content featuring its best entertainers, comedians and musicians. YANGA! means self-pride in West African pidgin and is an enthusiastic form of self-expression. As spicy and varied as the continent’s cuisine, YANGA! will offer viewers a taste of home with positive and inspirational stories to celebrate the cultural richness and pride of Africa and its people.
Questions will be addressed such as;
- What impact does the way the Western media portrays Africa have on the Diaspora's position within society?
- Is Africa, its history, its international clout and ultimately its possibilities for development, well served by the media?
- Do media outlets accurately represent and reflect the lives of the African Diaspora in the UK?
