The event registration begins at 12.30pm. Then:

Estate Planning and Capacity Update – Legal Considerations for Advisers in 2025
Clare Nicolle is a founding partner at Nicolle Marshall, a Jersey-based law firm specialising in private client, estate planning, and capacity matters. With over 20 years’ experience in Jersey law, Clare advises on complex estate administration, wills and probate, enduring powers of attorney, and Court of Protection applications. She is well regarded for her compassionate approach in working with vulnerable individuals and their families, and frequently collaborates with financial advisers and trustees to deliver joined-up solutions. Clare is also an advocate for raising awareness around mental capacity issues in later life planning.
Learning objectives:
- By attending this session, delegates will be able to:
- Understand the current legal framework in Jersey relating to mental capacity, powers of attorney, and guardianship.
- Identify key estate planning considerations when clients may lack or lose capacity, including will drafting and managing client instructions.
- Recognise how to work effectively with legal professionals to support clients in vulnerable circumstances or with complex estate issues.
Learning outcomes:
Following this session, participants will be able to:
- Explain the relevance of capacity assessments and legal documentation in estate planning for clients approaching later life.
- Apply practical knowledge when advising clients or families on enduring powers of attorney and guardianship options in Jersey.
- Collaborate confidently with legal professionals to deliver joined-up advice on estate administration and client care.
