Leeds Trinity University is pleased to invite you to learn more about our PGCert Advanced Practice in Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) programme, a practice-based part-time 12-month course.

This programme is designed specifically for practitioners supporting children and young people with SLCN in educational settings and third-sector organisations, e.g. SENCOs, Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Head Teachers and Support Workers.

This highly innovative and unique course allows working practitioners to gain work-based learning credit while developing your practice to meet the complex needs of children and young people with SLCN.

The course enables you to:

  • Develop an advanced level of understanding and knowledge about speech, language and communication development and challenges in children and young people.
  • Develop SLCN assessment and identification skills, expertise and abilities at a targeted level, including using various tools, assessments and approaches to explore needs in a detailed manner.
  • Develop advanced knowledge and understanding of a range of support strategies, environmental adaptations and interventions to support SLCN in children and young people.
  • Be able to critically appraise your own professional, interpersonal and inclusive practice in your setting’s provision in SLCN, including action planning for enhancements in your current provisions.
  • Develop your ability to critically appraise and evaluate evidence-based research and practice, enhancing academic and professional skills.

This information session will share more detail about the programme, including views and feedback from previous students, as well as a chance for you to ask any questions you may have. You can also find out more about the course here.
