About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

The University Graduate School supports postgraduates at the University of Birmingham. We offer a variety of academic, social and wellbeing activities throughout the year.

This includes PGT Essentials, a series of workshops designed to help PGT students develop essential skills and think about their next steps - look out for other sessions in the PGT Essentials Collection!

If your PGT dissertation is based on secondary research and you need a bit of support and advice for writing and structuring it, then this is the workshop for you. Our ASC expert will look at different approaches you can take to improve your writing, structure your work, and write more critically.

Join the University Graduate School and the Academic Skills Centre for this online workshop, followed by a Q&A where you can ask any questions related to dissertations and writing.

The workshop covers:

  • How to approach writing your dissertation,
  • How to review and critique literature,
  • How to ensure coherence and flow across chapters,
  • Advice for writing more critically,
  • Where to find resources for further help,
  • and a Q&A where you can ask our academic expert for help and advice.

Please note, the session will NOT cover:

  • Support for academic English,
  • Proofreading or editing for a piece of work,
  • Advice for creative writing.

Please note: Joining information (Zoom link) will be included in your confirmation email, and sent via Eventbrite email ahead of the event. Please check your junk folder or contact the Graduate School if you do not receive the link before the event.

When using Zoom, you must log on using your University of Birmingham email address for authentication purposes. For information on how to do that, please watch the video included on this Eventbrite page - just click the 'play' button on the event's cover image.

The event will be recorded for those who can't make it - please register as normal to receive the recording via email after the workshop has finished.
