Phamie Gow: Beyond The Milky Way
Event Information
Description
Blackwell's Bookshop is delighted to welcome Phamie Gow, one of Scotland’s most versatile and gifted composerperformers, to the shop for a live performance celebrating her new recording Beyond the Milky Way.
Phamie Gow has played in festivals and theatres around the world, and has appeared in New York’s Carnegie Hall with Philip Glass, Ray Davies, Marisa Monte, the Patti Smith backing band and the Canadian celtic fiddler Ashley MacIsaac.
She co-starred in the sell out Broadway show Tapeire and has performed with the legendary Pete Seeger, the harpist Allan Stivell, and the renowned Galician piper Carlos Nunez, amongst others. In 2012 she was accompanied by the Queen’s Pipers (The Pipes and Drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards) and the London Metropolitan Orchestra on a commissioned work which was choreographed and performed as part of The Royal Military Tattoo and later recorded at Metropolis Studios in London.
In this, her 9th album, Phamie is accompanied by a string quartet from Scottish Opera on four of the ten tracks, and breaks new ground with a bonus track, Follow Your Heart in which she features as a singer-songwriter as well as pianist.
John Suchet of Classic FM has described Phamie as ‘a brilliant young composer’, and Philip Glass said she is ‘full of melody and surprise. A winning combination’.
