Event description

Description

Tutor: Dr. Teodor Borz
Begins: Tuesday, 25 October 2016
Location: The Braidwood Centre, Edinburgh
Course duration: 4 weeks
Class duration: 6:30pm - 7:45 pm, every Tuesday

The structure and centrality of consciousness in experiencing itself and the world shapes the way in which religion can be philosophically investigated. During this course, we will explore the theoretical tools, concepts and themes by which we can place ourselves beyond philosophical dichotomies such as 'Objective' and 'Subjective', East and West', and into the space between concepts and the non-conceptual that is religious experience.

The course offers an encounter with the philosophical tradition of phenomenology regarded both as a 20th century movement and as a method of thought, in the context of the experience of the sacred. Beginning with the writings of Edmund Husserl and Rudolf Otto, the student will be gradually introduced to key thinkers belonging to the phenomenological tradition.

Dr. Teodor Borz is resident in Edinburgh, UK. He has been a tutor in philosophy and theology at the University of Edinburgh's School of Divinity for two years and is known for his excellent teaching and broad range of knowledge. His interests are situated at the junction between philosophy and theology, with a particular focus on phenomenology, philosophy of religion and depth psychology.

Course fee: £40 - Payable in person and online on eventbrite or at http://clearwateracademy.net/en/phenomenology-of-religion/
