Phi Mu Chapter Seminar - Advanced Practice
Overview
In this session we welcome two speakers to discuss contemporary issues in Advanced Practice.
Session 1 - Dr Peter Wolfensberger's contribution deals with the development and implementation of the first PMHNP/CNS program at a German speaking university. The development of APN roles in Switzerland is already well advanced in some areas. In psychiatric nursing, there are still major hurdles to overcome, which these specific role profiles are intended to address.
Session 2 - Dr Katie Hemmings will present the work completed for her professional doctorate, including the findings from her mixed-method approach. The session will focus on the recommendations for improving retention and reducing attrition rates of ACPs with a focus on Emergency Care, and highlighting the real-life experiences of the ACPs involved in this research.
Dr Peter Wolfensberger is a Lecturer at Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) and Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University. He is involved in various working groups and organisations dealing with APN in Switzerland and is jointly responsible for the psychiatry specific focus in the MSc Nursing program at BFH
Dr Katie Hemmings is a Consultant Advanced Practitioner in paediatric emergency care at Salford Care Organisation, whilst also being in the final stages of completing her Professional Doctorate at The University of Salford. The focus of her research has been on investigating the retention and attrition of advanced clinical practitioners in emergency care in the United Kingdom.
