Description

Please join us for this FREE event with the Philadelphia Girls Choir at the Église St. Jacques le Majeur in Mougins, France!

The Philadelphia Girls Choir is celebrating its seventh full season this year, with over 200 singers in three ensembles: Etude, our introductory training choir, Cantata, our intermediate preparatory choir, and Concerto, our performing ensemble which is touring Catalonia and the South of France for its sixth international tour. For the second time, select members of Cantata are also joining the tour.

The Philadelphia Girls Choir uses a holistic approach to choral music, relating singing technique, musicianship training, and choral performance to the broader human experience through art, dance, drama, history, geography, and cultural diversity. Each year is structured around a core idea, and each choir will learn repertoire that specifically relates to this theme. They then have the opportunity to visit museums, attend performances, and perform in locations that are tied to the core repertoire, reinforcing the significance of the music to the experience.

Nathan Wadley, Music Director

Prior to joining PGC, Mr. Wadley was a conductor with the Pennsylvania Girlchoir, conducting both the Troubadors and Kantorei ensembles. He has developed Kodály-based music education and theory programs for several organizations, and has incorporated those methods into the training programs of all three choirs. Mr. Wadley earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Masters Degree in Choral Conducting from Missouri State University. He is a certified Kodály music educator, studying first at New York University and then at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he was awarded the Kodály Achievement Scholarship.

Laura Harmon, Associate Music Director

Laura Harmon obtained her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J. A passionate musician, she has over 12 years of professional experience as an educator and choral conductor. She is currently the Vocal Music teacher and Choral Director at Stockton and Cooper Elementary in Cherry Hill, NJ. Within this program, she created the Broadway Showcase and developed the Crescendo Competition Choir, which highlights the abilities of her talented students. She obtained her Level IV Kodály training from Westminster Choir College through The Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE). To increase her knowledge and involvement with the Kodály method she is on the New Jersey Board and Eastern Division Board of the organization.
