In 2005 he began studying with the Medical Artist’s Education Trust becoming a professional member of the Medical Artist’s Association of Great Britain in 2009. Ultimately served as chairman of the MAA in 2023. He is also a professional member of the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI)
He now finds himself now on the other side of the table as an invited judge on the IMI’s competition select committee - a role that allows him to admire ( and sometimes gently critique) the next generation of illustrators.
Philip’s specialist interest lie in oculoplastic and maxillofacial surgery - faces in all their fascinating complexity. From the surreal shift between drawing cartoons to drawing cadavers in the dissection room and volunteering as a lecture at the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh teaching facial anatomy reminding students that drawing noses are tricky than they look.
