The Principal and Fellows of St Edmund Hall, and The Trustees of the Philip Geddes Memorial Prize are pleased to invite you to hear Gabriel Gatehouse, the award winning podcaster -' The Coming Storm', author and former International Editor of Newsnight, deliver the 2025 Geddes Memorial lecture at 5.30pm on Friday 7 March 2025 in the Examination Schools, High Street, Oxford.

This is a free public lecture. All are welcome to attend.

Established in 1998, the lecture is convened in memory of St Edmund Hall alumnus, Philip Geddes (1977, English Language & Literature), who was murdered by IRA terrorists in the 1983 Harrods bombing at just 24 years of age. Each year the Hall and the Geddes Trust invite an esteemed journalist to give a lecture about their views on the state of journalism today.

Gabriel Gatehouse will discuss the role of conspiracy theories in contemporary politics, the impact of technology on politics and journalism, and what the future holds for democracy in an America led by President Trump.

About the Speaker

Gabriel has reported from almost every recent conflict around the world winning numerous awards for his journalism, most recently the 2023 Broadcasting Press Guild (for The Coming Storm podcast) and the 2020 Foreign Press Association award for his coverage of the Hong Kong protests. He has reported extensively from the United States on Donald Trump's presidency.

The lecture will be followed by questions from the audience and then a drinks reception at St Edmund Hall.
