Event description

Description

This seminar forms part of the Social Movements and Popular Mobilisation in the MENA Research Network.

Robyn Magalit Rodriguez examines Filipino migrants’ international activism, focusing on their participation in the International Migrants Alliance (IMA), an alliance of 120 grassroots migrant organisations from more than 30 countries. She looks at how, through the IMA, migrant activists have been able to draw attention to issues facing Filipino migrants in the Middle East, shape international laws protecting them, and challenge dominant state and civil society narratives around temporary labour migration regimes, instead treating them as a form of “modern-day slavery.”

* Please note that this is a discussion-based seminar. A paper will be circulated to those who register to attend and will be briefly presented at the start of the seminar, after which the floor will be open to questions and comments from the audience.
