Event description

Description

Philosophical Dialogue in the Science Classroom

Explore dialogue facilitation techniques to support curriculum understanding, foster a deeper understanding of science and enhance pupil engagement.

This workshop will provide teachers with the opportunity to explore newly-developed resources that provoke philosophical thinking and discussion in the science classroom. Teachers will be introduced to dialogue facilitation techniques to support curriculum understanding and encourage pupils who may not typically engage with science lessons. There will be time to collectively reflect on ways to integrate these methods into science lessons, sharing best practice with colleagues and educational experts.

The workshop is aimed at anyone responsible for teaching science, at primary or secondary level.

------------------------------------------------

Ellie Hart (philosophy practitioner) and Ellie Cripps (Public Engagement, University of Bristol) will be leading the workshop.
Ellie C and Ellie H work on a collaborative project with the Centre for Science and Philosophy at the University of Bristol, working with local science teachers to develop philosophy of science resources. Ellie Cripps is a Public Engagement Associate supporting academics and students in the Faculties of Science and Engineering to engage different public audiences with their research. She also leads on engagement with schools for the Public Engagement team. Ellie Hart is a philosophy practitioner working on projects that bring together schools, the University of Bristol and the public. She has an academic background in philosophy of science and is trained in P4C.

A complementary workshop ‘Performance in the Science Classroom’ will take place on the 15th of May at We the Curious. It is not essential that you attend both sessions. These workshops have been created as part of the Horizon 2020 funded PERFORM project.
