Event description

Description

This 10 week course provides an introduction to some of the central problems of philosophy, examining original texts of a range of philosophers from the Enlightenment (e.g. Descartes, Hume) to the twentieth century (e.g. Bernard Williams, Robert Nozick). The course assumes no prior knowledge of philosophy and close attention will be paid to helping students understand the language and methods of philosophical argument. All the texts are available in the textbook Reading Philosophy which students are encouraged to buy (though some of the texts are in the public domain and will be made available through Moodle, the course learning management system).

What you get

  • Full access to the International School of Philosophy online material (via Moodle)

  • A fortnightly online lecture, introducing you to the topic to be discussed that week.

  • Online forums (on Moodle) to discuss the fortnight's reading moderated by the lecturer on that topic.

  • An online quiz on each topic.

The Terms and Conditions are available at the International School of Philosophy website and those who wish to enrol should read them.
