Target audience: teachers and teaching assistants teaching phonics Phases 2-5 in intervention groups at KS2.
Course leader: Alison Bailey, Pathfinder consultant trainer
The national expectation is that children can decode fluently and spell many words automatically by the end of KS1; this session is for staff teaching pupils who have not reached this standard. It Is assumed that delegates have the appropriate subject knowledge for teaching phonics.
The session will include:
- an overview of progression in phonics and national expectations
- recommended core teaching activities and resources
- planning for intervention sessions lesson and a teaching sequence
- ways to promote application of phonics into reading and spelling
