Description

Target audience: teachers and teaching assistants teaching phonics Phases 2-5 in intervention groups at KS2. 

Course leader: Alison Bailey, Pathfinder consultant trainer

The national expectation is that children can decode fluently and spell many words automatically by the end of KS1; this session is for staff teaching pupils who have not reached this standard. It Is assumed that delegates have the appropriate subject knowledge for teaching phonics.

The session will include:

  • an overview of progression in phonics and national expectations
  • recommended core teaching activities and resources
  • assessment 
  • planning for intervention sessions lesson and a teaching sequence
  • ways to promote application of phonics into reading and spelling

If you have a copy of Letters and Sounds, please bring it with you.

NOTES:

There is plenty of parking at the school.
