Photographing Bowie - In Conversation with Tony McGee
Overview
Few artists have had the opportunity to work as closely with Bowie as McGee, who collaborated with him on numerous occasions over a fifteen-year period, developing a close professional as well as personal relationship. Surrounded by eight of his finest David Bowie images, McGee – a born storyteller – will give attendees the inside story on working with one of the most enigmatic and creative individuals in the history of popular culture.
Tony McGee began working as a photographer at the age of 16; by age 21 his images had appeared on 25 magazine covers. In 1980 he was named Best British Photographer, and in 1982, the year he met David Bowie, he was awarded the title of the Best Fashion Photographer in the UK. He has created award-winning fashion campaigns, photographing models such as Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer. In 1990 his portrait of Bowie was accepted into the National Portrait Gallery.
McGee’s images of Bowie will be on display at the gallery from the 5th to the 17th of January.
