Event description

Description

Swaledale

It’s a long way north – the last one in Yorkshire too – famous for it’s steep, narrow valley and 1000+ barns.

Towards to the top of the valley is pretty steep, so full of waterfalls – and we’ll show you several of these, along with some great views over the barns.

What we’ll see

(Note that this is a suggested route – it may vary on the day with weather, the experience of the delegates and what people want to do)

We’ll be setting heading up Wharfedale and Wensleydale to get to the valley – so these have some stunning views of their own.

Following the path of the Tour De France, we’ll head through Kettlewell, Buckden over to West Burton – where may stop briefly to photograph Cauldron Force.

From there it’s across the valley and over one of the steep passes to enter Swaledale near Crackpot. There’s a good sized hidden waterfall at Crackpot – we will stop here to show you this.

From Crackpot we’ll head along a road high above the valley with great views over to Gunnerside – perfect for those long lens shots of barns and stone walls.

Rejoining the main valley road, we head to Keld, with a few stops to take in the barns and valley shots – all taken from the side of the road.

At Keld, there are 3-4 waterfalls within a small walk from the car park – we’ll do as many as we like here.

A little further up the road is Wainwath waterfall, by the side of the road – this is a stunner, great for long exposures as the still waters below the falls spiral around, treating you to lovely circles of bubbles.

Towards sunset, we head back up Buttertub’s Pass and into Wensleydale to Semer Water – Yorkshire’s biggest lake, you get great west views looking over the water, so ideal for sunsets.
