About the project:
'The Plastic Bag' is a new body of work by Matt Greenwood, a photographer whose previous projects have been exhibited at the National Assembly of South Korea and at Tate Modern in Uniqlo's 'Future of Art' display.
Back in 2015, Matt began collecting plastic bags, but it wasn’t until 2023 that he began to photograph them. What started as a slight obsession with their design has become a bigger exploration of sustainability, waste, and the everyday things we overlook.
Matt has now collected and photographed over 1000 single use plastic bags. He finds some on eBay, some on the street, but he has been overwhelmed at how many have now found their way to him through friends, friends of friends, and people who have found out about his project online.
Having long been inspired by sculpture, for this project, Matt wants to use his photographs as a way of creating ‘temporary sculptures’, freezing the bags in a moment in time. He also wants his photographs to act as an archive of his collection, so he chooses to isolate them by taking them in a clean white studio space.
We look forward to seeing you there! If you could RSVP by booking a free ticket here, it will help us get an idea of numbers and how many drinks to organise for the PV.
