About this event
Photography workshop, online, via Zoom.
Is it for me?
This monthly meet up is designed for people who cannot easily leave their homes due to long term health condition, Long Covid, M.E. or Fibromialgia.
It is also suitable for those who have anxiety due to a life changing event or recent diagnosis.
All you need is a keen interest in photography and wellbeing and use a camera or phone to take images. All levels wellcome.
What will happen in the session?
Through the presentation of photographs, you will be encouraged to 'see' your local environment in a new light and learn how to capture beautiful images on whatever device you are using. You will be guided to becoming familiar with rules of composition and recognise when it is good to break the rules for good effect!
We will help you to see beauty in your local environment through the seasons even if you find it hard to leave your home or have limited access to the outdoors. We will provide inspiration to channel your creativity through your photography wherever you live and whatever nature you have access to.
How will I learn?
The tutor provides a non-competitive and collaborative space. Inspiration and encouragement is provided for you, wherever you are on your photography journey.
A practical activity is set to do between sessions.
Who is the group run by?
Vanessa Miles is a Devon based professional photographer and teacher.
She is a founder and director of Well Image CIC which, since the pandemic, has been working with organisations using photography as a catalyst to support mental health. Vanessa has a rich and varied background in many areas of professional photography and has a particular interest in nature and the environment, and is an experienced teacher. She has had her own work published in a very wide range of national magazines and newspapers. She has a Masters degree in Photography and is keen to include aspects of the history of photography as well as her knowledge of contemporary photographers as inspiration in her workshops.
“Thank you so much for this course it has transformed my mental health and got me physically moving more too which is quite a feat with my M.E & Fibromyalgia". Anon
“Before the course, it would be too much physical or mental effort to just go out or I might be in too much pain, so it gives me that extra incentive to go and do things and get me out of the house. My fitness as well as my mental health has improved enormously as a result.”
Charlie
"The photography literally and sort of more metaphorically made me view my own environment differently. I started noticing the light coming in, you know, really basic things like started noticing how the light came in through the windows or shadows on the walls and the view outside by windows and how that changed as the seasons changed.”
Kate
“Before, I didn't really want to get out of bed because it meant facing the day but having something to look forward to, even if it was getting up and switching the laptop on and doing the online side of Well Image, you know that was really important because it gave me structure and it gave me something to get up for.”
