Event description

Description

Learn to take incredible images of the tiny species living in a pond with photographer 'Pondman' Neil Philips.

Want to photograph something different? Or would you like to find macro wildlife subjects in the cooler months? Why not try some pond creature photography?

Over the last 6 years Neil Philips has been working on ways to photograph the creatures that live in and on our ponds, such as; pond skaters, diving beetles, water boatman and dragonfly nymphs. The workshop will start with a classroom session running through the techniques used when taking the photos and a brief discussion about the creatures found in the pond. This will be followed by a short walk (less than 70 metres) to the ponds to catch some subjects, before heading back to the classroom.

We will spend the majority of the time in the classroom using the photographic aquariums to take images of the interesting species found in ponds.

This workshop is for beginners and intermediates (though it will be of interest to higher skilled photographers who want to take pictures of this specific subject matter). Some basic knowledge of how your camera works will be helpful to get the most from this workshop

Tutor Description - Neil Philips

Neil has been a wildlife photographer and environmental educator for 13 years, and while he does photograph the standard birds and mammals he has always favoured the less photographed species such as insects and amphibians. His interest in freshwater life developed during pond dipping sessions, leading to the nickname ‘Pondman’ and his specialising in this area of wildlife photography .

He has been highly commended in the British Wildlife Photography Awards 4 times and awarded in a number of local, national and international competitions. He has also published his work in national newspapers, books and magazines.
