As part of the Light Project and the RSG Earth Photography Exhibition at Harwell, we're hosting a day of creative photography workshops for young people, each accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or carer.
Date: Sunday 19th October
Cost: £7 / pair (1 ticket covers 2 people e.g. young person plus adult)
Venue: Quad Two, Harwell Campus (Google Maps link here)
Led by Sharp Shots Photo Club, the day will include two separate sessions:
- 10:30 - 13:00 Children (ages 7 - 11)
- 13:30 - 16:00 Teenagers (ages 12 - 18)
Both groups will visit the Earth Photo exhibition and use the stunning finalist images as inspiration for their own photography. Participants will be provided with appropriate cameras to use during the sessions: children - waterproof/shatterproof cameras, teenagers - professionals DSLRs.
At the end of each workshop, every participant will have taken a set of creative photographs and have the opportunity to print and take home their two favourite prints.
Please bring appropriate clothing and footwear, a water bottle, and a snack as there will be opportunity for a short break.
Children's Workshop (ages 7 - 11): Nature Photography
This session will explore how to capture the beauty of the natural world. Children will learn simple but effective techniques and camera settings for photographing plants, trees, flowers, insects, and birds. They'll discover how to see the fine details, use the camera's focus, flower and landscape setting creatively, and play with perspective to bring out the textures and colours of nature. The emphasis will be on encouraging curiosity and creativity while building confidence behind the camera.
Teen Workshop (ages 12 - 18): Landscape Photography
Teenagers will take a deeper dive into the art of landscape photography. They'll explore how to frame a scene, balance foreground and background, and make the most of natural light. With guidance from the tutor, they'll also learn how to use key camera functions such as focus, zoom and aperture to add mood and drama to their images. This session is designed to help teens develop a more thoughtful and professional approach to photography.
