All our classes are pay what you can ❤️
Led by Luisa-Maria Maccormack, this class will be a playful exploration of the human figure in motion, inspired by Pablo Picasso’s lifelong fascination with circus performers and acrobats. While we’ll touch on the elegance of his Rose Period and his enduring interest in saltimbanques, the main focus will be on Picasso’s dynamic sketches—where the body is pushed, stretched, and abstracted into bold, expressive forms.
To bring this energy into our own drawings, we’ll look at incredible vintage footage of vaudeville circus acts, using the moving image as a springboard for loose, gestural studies. Students will be encouraged to embrace speed, distortion, and exaggeration, allowing the figure to become fluid, abstract, and full of vitality—rather than strictly realistic.
This session will be an exciting opportunity to experiment with the expressive potential of the human form, balancing inspiration from Picasso’s works with direct observation from vintage performance. Designed for all levels, the class will invite students to draw boldly, freely, and with a sense of fun.
